The series also continued to support rising leaders in the jazz genre particularly those working in the large ensemble format including grammy winning arturo o'farrill's afro latin jazz orchestra in collaboration with brazilian icon hamilton de holanda. Strathmore continues to work with embedded community connectors and curators to ensure that members of all communities receive information in ways it is most meaningful to them, whether that is in a special language newspaper, from trusted community conveners through group sales, or in heavily frequented gathering places.
$682,974 spent5% of program spendingVisual arts: this year exhibitions featured art from private collections, academic art programs, and long-established art guilds. Our season opened with artflows, three private collections that overlapped with artwork from african, and african american artists. This show demonstrated that individuals on limited budgets can build and appreciate a personal art collection that grows and expands incrementally throughout a lifetime. As the program builds audiences to support a market for original art, we also presented art programs that examined the impact of community art collecting. A new relationship with american university's masters of arts candidates allows strathmore to build a pipeline of emerging artists annually in our solo gallery space. Additionally, we created an exhibition series for those emerging artists to return to strathmore in our main gallery spaces with our intersections series, a way for followers to re-connect with established artists on their professional journeys. Lastly, two familiar arts organizations returned to strathmore. The creative crafts council is comprised of 8-10 art guilds devoted to american craft, and the colored pencil society of american…

Student concerts, youth ensembles, and numerous outreach programs took place with robust enrollment. We also continued our programs for veterans jointly offered with mission belonging, including creative writing workshops and a day of belonging. Our signature partnership with montgomery county public schools (mcps) continued with curriculum-connected programs such as east county strings, north county strings/latin music initiative, in-school workshops, and summer camps offered with montgomery county recreation and linkages to learning. The windows series of educational and engagement activities paired with some of our mainstage programs offered patrons glimpses into worlds they might not otherwise encounter. These activities bring to life the distinct sounds of languages, regions, and musical traditions, while also exploring universal themes like resilience, family, youthful innocence, longing, fear, and dreams. Reflecting our commitment to nurturing artists, we celebrated 20 years of our flagship artist in residence program, and…

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2017 to 2018, from $16M to $22M (+33%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2017 17% · 2018 27% · 2019 29% · 2020 17% · 2021 40% · 2022 43% · 2023 22% · 2024 11% · 2025 9%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
32% of THE STRATHMORE HALL FOUNDATION INC’s revenue is contributions — more earned-revenue than three-quarters of its peers (58% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 12 funders to 23 funders, grant income rose $822k → $1.1M.
13 of 54 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 72% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
Left out of every figure on this page: $146k from 4 payers (the payer shares this organization's board, largest Greater Washington Community Foundation). These are real filings, and they are not money THE STRATHMORE HALL FOUNDATION INC raised.
From the IRS filings of THE STRATHMORE HALL FOUNDATION INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 54 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
THE STRATHMORE HALL FOUNDATION INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 61% of grant income and the top three 78%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
74% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund THE STRATHMORE HALL FOUNDATION INC.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 58% · 2018 60% · 2019 86% · 2020 82% · 2021 74% · 2022 65% · 2023 64% — growing more concentrated.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
52% of THE STRATHMORE HALL FOUNDATION INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 65% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
72% of THE STRATHMORE HALL FOUNDATION INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $2.6M that is directly attributable, 90% of it comes from funders outside Maryland, across 10 states.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $6.5M arriving through sponsors registered in 10 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
