01What it does

What Salute to Military Golf Association Inc does

Mission

Rehabilitative golf experiences for combat-wounded veterans to improve the quality of life for these American heroes. The SMGA believes that the rehabilitative benefits of golf can improve the mental and physical condition of each and every warrior returning from combat.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Chapters: In 2024, SMGA through its 8 chapters and our American Golfer Program, provided rehabilitative golf instructions to over 215 Veterans and Service Members. 180 of those Veterans completed the golf lessons and received a new set of custom-fitted golf clubs to match their individual requirements. The Atlanta Chapter sponsored their second Golf Tournament and Golf Clinic Series, providing lessons and clubs to 6 Veterans. Through our own tournaments as well as the tournaments run by our supporters, our Veterans had many opportunities to get out on the golf courses. Several of our lucky Veterans got to participate in events like Monday After the Masters, at Myrtle Beach, and some got to participate in Pro-Am events with PGA Golfers.

For 2024 the tournament revenue increased to over $46,000. In addition, the New England/Rhode Island Chapter of SMGA hosted 5 tournaments throughout New England to include tournaments at Springfield CC, Sharon CC, Wedgewood, and Ferncroft CC in Massachusetts and a tournament at Pawtucket CC in Rhode Island.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 4 funders to 10 funders, grant income rose $32k → $77k.

6 of 26 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 12% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of Salute to Military Golf Association Inc’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

Salute to Military Golf Association Inc leans on a few funders — its largest provides 40% of grant income and the top three 73%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

92% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund Salute to Military Golf Association Inc.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $105k arriving through sponsors registered in 6 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
