What Ronald McDonald House Charities of Columbia Sc does
Mission
Ronald mcdonald house charities columbia, sc creates, funds and supports programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children and their families.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.
Programs
The ronald mcdonald house: being away from home with a seriously ill or injured child is difficult and stressful for families. The cost of hotel rooms, long commutes, lengthy hospital stays and being away from family and friends in a strange place takes an enormous emotional and financial toll on families in crises. That's where we come in. We understand that being away from home, and perhaps unable to work, can take a financial toll on families, particularly those dealing with the medical crisis of a child. Therefore, though it costs $89/per family, per night to operate the house program, we only encourage, but never require, families to make a contribution of just $15 per night. However, no family is ever turned away due to their inability to contribute. The ronald mcdonald house is open to serve families 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year.

The family room offers refreshments, internet access, and most importantly, the helping hand of caring volunteers. The room is open 8-12:30 monday to friday. The pack-a-smile program started as a way for rmhc columbia, sc, to help more families during the pandemic by providing free bagged breakfast and lunch. The program was such a success and met such a need that it continues to this day. Families grab a pack-a-smile lunch quickly, safely, and without leaving the hospital. Pack-a-smile lunches are nutritious, including items such as a lunchable or uncrustable, fruit, something salty, something sweet, a bottle of water, and a word of encouragement from our community. For those families fortunate enough to stay with their child in the hospital, there are some disadvantages. Adequate sleep while always keeping an ear open to hear their child in the middle of the night. For this reason, we have started a treat trolley that travels room to room at prisma health children's…

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2019 to 2020, from $6.4M to $5.4M (−16%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2020 6% · 2021 10%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.

97% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Largest funder’s share by year: 2018 100% · 2019 100% · 2020 71% · 2021 89% · 2022 45% · 2023 50% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration.
