What Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation Inc does
Mission
Ppff's mission is to inspire stewardship of pennsylvania's state parks and forests.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Program
The theme for 2025 was "trails", which celebrated the 11,000 miles of trails we have in the state park and forest systems, and provided an opportunity to educate, inform, and conserve through various modes and projects. From an educational perspective, we provided articles and information on new ways to recreate in state parks and forests. We used our platforms of newsletters, blogs, and social media to share information on new opportunities and looked at ways to engage volunteers, both at ppff and through our chapters. This included multiple corporate volunteer days. Key accomplishments include: 1) launching or revitalizing friends groups at promised land state parks and buchanan state forest. 2) expanding corporate volunteerism through deloitte, national fuel, gore, siemens, and others. 3) advancing accessibility through action track chairs, inclusive playgrounds, ada trail panels, and spanish-language educational videos. 4) completing major projects such as the start of restoration of the carroll cabin, grouse habitat interpretive panels (started), and trail improvements across multiple forests. 5) producing statewide outreach through newsletters, articles, podcasts, influencer…

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2024 to 2025, from $3.0M to $3.4M (+14%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2017 13% · 2018 10% · 2019 15% · 2020 42% · 2021 35% · 2022 9% · 2023 10% · 2024 13% · 2025 15%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.

8 of 41 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 10% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $227k arriving through sponsors registered in 6 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
