Mission

Our dream is to build a thriving community and empower people by revitalizing our approach to mental health support one life at a time.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

On its FY2025 return the organization reported a significant change in how it conducts a program.

During 2025, the organization began the process of winding down its programs and operations.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 3).

  1. Peace clinical - the peace (preventing the effects of adverse childhood experiences) clinical program is designed to help families combat the impacts of early adversity and reduce the likelihood of children developing toxic stress, a root cause of adult mental health conditions. Through various therapeutic services, peace helps strengthen caregiver-child relationships, while also helping children heal from stressful experiences and improve self-control and confidence in school, community, and social settings.student wellness program swp provides mental wellness screenings in partner schools, offers customized referrals to trusted mental health practitioners, and follow up case management for students and families. Students fill out a 10-minute survey regarding their emotions, thoughts and actions including indicators of depression, anxiety, thoughts of self-harm, attention-related concerns, disruptive behavior, and substance abuse. Students whose answers reveal a potential concern and those who ask for help, meet with a trained mental health professional in private to determine if a further evaluation would be helpful.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 5 funders to 9 funders, grant income fell $227k → $218k.

7 of 28 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 15% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Left out of every figure on this page: $37k from one payer (the payer shares this organization's board, largest Places for People Incorporated). These are real filings, and they are not money MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION OF ST LOUIS raised.

From the IRS filings of MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION OF ST LOUIS’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 27 of 28 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION OF ST LOUIS leans on a few funders — its largest provides 57% of grant income and the top three 80%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

79% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION OF ST LOUIS.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $278k arriving through sponsors registered in 7 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
