What Magdalene Omaha Inc does
Mission
We provide individualized support for survivors of sex trafficking to achieve freedom from violence, trauma, and addiction.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.
Programs
On its FY2023 return the organization reported a significant change in how it conducts a program.
In february 2023, voila was donated to the heart ministry center, a non-profit corporation.
Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 3).
Residential services: in 2023, magdalene omaha supported 217 survivors of sex trafficking (unique individuals), the highest number of people we served in one year. All these individuals gained support through our new beginnings campus, discussed below. Twelve women entered our sober living house, which we opened in 2017. Our residential recovery community provides comprehensive support to adult women who survived sex trafficking and who have an addiction. Residents are offered up to two years of safe, sober, rent-free housing in a peer support community. Of those who completed the orientation phase in our residential program:- 94% restored healthy family relationships;- 82% have had no new arrests (low recidivism); and- 59% maintained continuous long-term sobriety of one year or more.
$81,648 spent17% of program spendingNew beginnings campus: in 2019, we opened our new beginnings campus to offer support to survivors community-wide through this non-residential setting. We offer high-quality programming through our five pathways to healing for survivors to learn life and coping skills as they overcome trauma and addiction. We also took this programming into douglas county corrections, which grew the size of the survivor community we serve. At our magdalene omaha community center, we also offer peer support groups, fun sober activities, success navigation services, shower and laundry facilities, transportation services (including for mental health and medical appointments), and a personal items pantry.
$346,890 spent70% of program spendingWorkforce development: in 2018, to provide residents with the skills they needed to enter the workforce and build their own economic freedom, we opened our own survivor-led small business, thistle lights. Residents must complete the rigorous job readiness certificate training we offer, open to survivors community-wide, before they may apply for a short-term job training position at thistle lights. To increase the job training hours and skill development available for survivors, we acquired voila, a flower shop that became known as voila magdalene blooms. In february 2023, we donated voila to the heart ministry center, a non-profit corporation. We instead support residents in moving into individualized career paths that match their personal career goals after they complete their job training experience at thistle lights.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2023 to 2024, from $572k to $994k (+74%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2020 5%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
98% of MAGDALENE OMAHA INC’s revenue is contributions — more donation-reliant than the typical peer (93% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base held at 6 funders, grant income rose $264k → $426k.
4 of 21 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 2% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

How concentrated its funding is
MAGDALENE OMAHA INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 74% of grant income and the top three 90%; half comes from just 1 funder.

Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 54% · 2018 52% · 2019 56% · 2020 91% · 2021 71% · 2022 54% · 2023 71% — growing more concentrated.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
50% of MAGDALENE OMAHA INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 52% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
99% of MAGDALENE OMAHA INC's grant income comes from Nebraska funders.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $102k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
