01What it does

What Laguna Beach Community Clinic does

Mission

The mission of Laguna Beach Community Clinic (lbcc) is to provide excellent medical care regardless of the patient's ability to pay.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. As a health services organization with a target population of economically disadvantaged, low-income, and underserved individuals and families, lbcc is a safety net organization. 90% of lbcc patients are living below 200% federal poverty level: approximately 67% live in severe poverty (2024 office of statewide health planning and development utilization report). 36% of patients are hispanic, many of whom speak only spanish. Patients are local shop staff, hotel and restaurant employees, artists, household workers, gardeners, day laborers, and nannies. The patients we serve are at risk of foregoing early medical care of conditions, which would negatively affect their morbidity rates, and also burden the healthcare system in the long run. Their needs to access healthcare include finding:- a registered medi-cal provider.- a provider which accepts uninsured patients and offers low-cost service: many will never qualify for government subsidized insurance through medi-cal or will opt-out and will remain uninsured. These patients risk falling through the gaps in the safety net.- care that it is accessible both linguistically and geographically.- high quality care.a safety-net provider,…

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 15 funders to 16 funders, grant income rose $411k → $756k.

9 of 44 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 33% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of LAGUNA BEACH COMMUNITY CLINIC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 44 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

LAGUNA BEACH COMMUNITY CLINIC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 24% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left

65% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund LAGUNA BEACH COMMUNITY CLINIC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $1.8M arriving through sponsors registered in 6 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
