What Industrial Arts Workshop Inc does

Programs
Summer welding bootcamp: is the foundational program of iaw. Each summer a cohort of 10 students, ages 14-18, are selected from a pool of applicants to participate in a 10-week bootcamp where they learn everything from the technical side of welding to the creative side of planning and contructing a large scale public sculpture for the pittsburgh community. Students working on team building skills to complete design challenges and participate in field trips to local art galleries, trade programs, and industry businesses.
$73,307 spent31% of program spendingAfter school welding labs: are an opportunity for students ages 14-18 to come to the workshop after school to learn technical welding skills and about creative metal sculpture creation. Labs take place in the spring and fall for 10-11 week sessions. Each week, students meet monday - friday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. This program is more open ended than our summer welding bootcamp program and is largely student directed in terms of scope and projects.
$64,442 spent28% of program spendingMobile welding lab: is the program that holds the roots of the iaw. In the beginning iaw started as a mobile sculpture workshop - a passion project of executive director, tim kaulen, and some close friends that eventually evolved into all that iaw is today. While we do not have a mobile welding lab program running, we are working on grant funding for a new truck that would make all of our mobile welding lab dreams come true.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2020, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2020, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2020 to 2021, from $301k to $895k (+197%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2023 7% · 2024 10%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
91% of INDUSTRIAL ARTS WORKSHOP INC’s revenue is contributions — more donation-reliant than the typical peer (64% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2020 → 2023: the base broadened from 3 funders to 12 funders, grant income rose $10k → $450k.
5 of 27 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 8% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
INDUSTRIAL ARTS WORKSHOP INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 27% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left
Largest funder’s share by year: 2020 97% · 2021 53% · 2022 38% · 2023 28% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
63% of INDUSTRIAL ARTS WORKSHOP INC's funders are still giving 2 years after their first grant; 56% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
100% of INDUSTRIAL ARTS WORKSHOP INC's grant income comes from Pennsylvania funders.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $134k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
