Mission

To promote community health through urban agriculture, discovery-based learning, and equitable food access.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Provided a facility at three sites that enabled learning opportunities in urban agriculture. Implemented farm practices that reduced carbon footprint, water usage, and provided new varieties of bountiful fresh food. Over 200 inddividuals and families benefited from this program.

  2. Early Street Community Gardens. This program is designed to provide gardens and welcoming green spaces to community and neighboring residents as well as students, seniors and others who are interested in urban agriculture. The goal is to create sustainable public spaces that encourage pollinators and prevent storm water damage. To achieve this goal, we expanded space by pushing back fences and the parking space which we hope will encourage others to utilize the space and gain knowledge of the health benefits of green spaces and fresh food.

  3. Greenhouse Operations and Winter Farmers Market. The Greenhouse Operatons Program offers educational classes, internships, and volunteer opportunities for students. The program, located at St. Elizabeth University, has started vegetable, flower and herb seedlings for our urban farm. Garderners and well as community members have the opportunity to increase local food production that enhances the mental and physical benefits of gardening and offers a means to grow food during these inflationary times. Winter Farmers Market We expanded the space for our 12th annual Winter Farmers Market which provided more convenient and accessible space for more than 50 vendors.

The 3 programs described on its FY2025 Form 990, listed largest first by expense. Program spending in total: $432,055.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 4 funders to 12 funders, grant income rose $29k → $142k.

7 of 29 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 34% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of GROW IT GREEN MORRISTOWN INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 28 of 29 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

GROW IT GREEN MORRISTOWN INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 17% of grant income, and it takes 4 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 4 funders to its left

57% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund GROW IT GREEN MORRISTOWN INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $266k arriving through sponsors registered in 6 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
