01What it does

What Global Links does

Mission

Global Links is a non-profit dedicated to improving health in communities with need. Global Links collaborates with u.s. Healthcare institutions and the community to rescue hundreds of tons of high-quality surplus medical materials every year. These materials are shared with public health facilities around the world and with non-profit organizations in western pennsylvania that are providing care for their community's most vulnerable people.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Our international programs support health improvement projects in communities lacking resources, primarily in latin america and the caribbean. We collaborate with the pan american health organization/world health organization (paho/who), national and local health leaders, and others to develop projects to improve public health outcomes in vulnerable populations. Our projects focus on primary care; strengthening public health and disaster recovery.

  2. Our domestic programs include: 1. Our community partners program ensures that people in western pennsylvania have access to basic health and hygiene materials via our nonprofit partners. These medical and personal hygiene supplies are not available to people due to gaps in insurance coverage, affordability of co-pays, or lack of coverage by other assistance programs. We support initiatives related to basic needs, healthy aging, respiratory health, maternal and infant health, and community health. 2. Our community engagement and volunteer program provides a supportive and educational environment where hands-on service has a profound impact on the lives of those in need. People of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities sort and prepare the medical materials used in our programs, turning our region's surplus into life-saving and life-improving donations. 3. Our medical surplus recovery program provides healthcare organizations, universities and the public with a responsible alternative to discarding surplus medical supplies and furnishings, rescuing an average of 250 tons of high-quality surplus materials in a typical year.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 9 funders to 30 funders, grant income rose $145k → $825k.

13 of 73 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 14% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of GLOBAL LINKS’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 73 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

GLOBAL LINKS has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 19% of grant income, and it takes 6 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 6 funders to its left

39% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund GLOBAL LINKS.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How long its funders stay

50% of GLOBAL LINKS's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 63% give in more than one year at all.

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $959k arriving through sponsors registered in 8 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
