01What it does

What Flagler Humane Society Inc does

Mission

We transform the lives of animals with compassionate care and services, outstanding educational programs, and advocacy for all animals.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. An animal in need is never turned away at fhs. Fhs veterinarians and veterinary technicians provide essential lifetime medical services for animals in the kennel and animals in the community. Services include low-cost animal wellness clinics, low-cost vaccination clinics, wellness and sick animal office visits by appointment, pet dental services, heartworm and flea prevention treatments, medical procedures and testing. Ensuring that all animals are spayed or neutered is a primary goal of the fhs as this is the most effective method to reduce pet overpopulation and shelter intake. Low-cost spay and neuter services include multiple programs for low-income pet owners, and group pricing for animal rescue organizations and community cat caregivers. In 2024 fhs veterinary staff performed 2,564 surgeries and 12,145 exams.

  2. Fhs provides animal control services throughout flagler county. Animal control services emphasize animal health and welfare, community safety and education. Emergency call-out services for injured or sick animals including wildlife are responded to 24 hours a day seven days a week by fhs officers. Officers work with local communities to support feline population control through the trap-neuter-return program. Animal control officers educate the public and provide trapping and transportation of animals, while shelter medical staff conduct neutering and provide medical oversight. In 2024 animal control officers handled 513 cases including investigating dog bites, rescuing kittens trapped in a drainpipe and confiscating animals suspected of being abused.

  3. Flagler humane society (fhs) is an open admission shelter with the goal of placing all animals received into a safe and loving home. Our top priority is to return animals to their owners using neighborhood searches and social media. Animals coming into the shelter are spay/neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped, heartworm tested, felv/fiv tested for cats, and a wellness exam is performed. Pet adoptions occur every day at the shelter and at offsite events and promotions with community partners. Our staff cleans and disinfects the entire shelter every day, we oversee play groups and volunteers take dogs on offsite play dates. Fhs received 2976 animals into the shelter in 2024, adopted 2175 animals to new homes and released 44 wild animals back into nature.

The 3 programs described on its FY2024 Form 990, listed largest first by expense. Program spending in total: $3,309,828.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 5 funders to 10 funders, grant income fell $39k → $35k.

4 of 22 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 26% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of FLAGLER HUMANE SOCIETY INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

FLAGLER HUMANE SOCIETY INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 27% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left

86% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund FLAGLER HUMANE SOCIETY INC.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $99k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
