01What it does

What E-Motion Inc does

Mission

E-motion is committed to transforming the way the world shows up for each other through grief and loss, so no one grieves alone. We do this through the power of movement, community, and ritual to enhance coping and resiliency.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Our core program is the movement community model which is an eight week, movement-based grief group for individuals who have experienced life-disrupting loss. Each group, led by a trained facilitator, brings together 10-20 grievers in a supportive, peer-based setting. The program is offered free of charge. In 2025, we trained 32 facilitators who launched 32 movement communities across the united states, reaching and supporting more than 313 grievers. In 2025, e-motion also launched a research partnership with grief and bereavement researchers at boston children's hospital and dana-farber cancer institute. Together with dr. Sarah mccarthy and dr. Jennifer snaman, we are developing hearts in motion, an irb-approved study examining the role of movement and social support on grief outcomes. The metlife foundation generously supported this major effort.

  2. In 2025, e-motion continued advancing grief literacy through education and training programs designed to equip professionals and communities with practical tools and language to better support people navigating loss. We were honored to lead training sessions for several distinguished organizations, including grand rounds for obgyn and pediatric neurology at the university of michigan and the association of pediatric oncology social workers (aposw). These sessions focused on helping healthcare professionals strengthen their ability to show up for patients and families experiencing grief, reflecting e-motion's broader commitment to advancing grief-informed care across multidisciplinary healthcare communities. In total, our education and training programs reached 1,173 individuals in 2025. From one-time workshops to deeper, ongoing collaborations, this work supports colleges and universities, nonprofits, healthcare systems, and youth-serving organizations in building stronger cultures of care.

  3. In addition to movement communities, e-motion offers direct-to-griever programs designed to expand access to connection and support for people navigating loss.rx to feel: rx to feel is e-motion's self-guided audio series created by and for grievers, intended to be experienced while in motion. Launched in 2024, the series offers companionship and reflection prompts that help listeners move with their grief through everyday movement. In 2025, rx to feel was also integrated into the movement community experience, with episodes incorporated into weekly facilitator notes and movement practices. Additional audio series are currently in development and will launch in 2026.sacred circles: sacred circles are short, monthly virtual gatherings facilitated by e-motion that provide a grounding space for grievers to speak their person's name, reflect, and be witnessed in community. The sacred circle ritual at the heart of every movement community invites participants to honor their grief and arrive as they are before moving together. In 2025, virtual sacred circles reached 120 participants, offering shared reflection and a reminder that grief belongs in community.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.

5 of 12 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 49% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of E-MOTION INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 11 of 12 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

E-MOTION INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 29% of grant income and the top three 65%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

71% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund E-MOTION INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Where its funders are

E-MOTION INC draws 72% of its grant income from funders outside New Hampshire, across 4 states in all.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $121k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
