01What it does

What Love Not Lost Inc does

Mission

Love not lost exists to bring love and healing to those in grief. Through our photography program, we provide a free portrait session & photo box to those facing a terminal diagnosis. We also create empathy tools & support resources for the community and the workplace.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Preserving memories program: in 2024, we continued serving families facing a terminal diagnosis across the country to create and preserve beautiful memories for their loved ones. The photographs we give to families offer emotional support, a tool in grief, and a way to continue bonds with their loved one after they have died. This year, we had our first day of mini-sessions with our partner, northside hospital to serve multiple families in ga in a single day at their metastatic breast cancer retreat, which was a huge success.

  2. Corporate care program: although the free webinars we have been offering are helpful to the attendees, it's not creating any revenue as we had hoped. This will be our last year of the corporate care program so that we can keep our efforts focused on serving families and the community so we don't stretch too thin with our resources and attention.

    $6,499 spent

  3. Community support program: our online community, the momento collective, continues to be a place where people can learn how to better support themselves and each other through loss. People can create a profile with free self-assessments, access to the learning library with grief education (still on target to launch in 2025), share stories or read others' stories, and join the book club for meaningful connection and conversations. Howcaniloveyoubetter.com is still going strong and serves as a helpful tool for those looking to support others going through a tough time. We continue to expand the resource page on our website, adding partners like help texts and supportnow as well.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 7 funders, grant income rose $3k → $79k.

6 of 9 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 38% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of LOVE NOT LOST INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

LOVE NOT LOST INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 60% of grant income and the top three 84%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

98% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund LOVE NOT LOST INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

50% of LOVE NOT LOST INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 89% give in more than one year at all.

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $108k arriving through sponsors registered in 6 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
