01What it does

What Central United Methodist Church of Detroit Community Development Corp does

Mission

To facilitate development initiatives, which may include housing to benefit underserved communities and populations and to support the outreach programs of Central United Methodist Church of Detroit. To this end, the organization sponsors the Noah at Central, which provides lunch four times a week, street outreach and case work services to those who are experiencing homelessness in Detroit.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. Noah at Central has been journeying alongside Detroiters experiencing homelessness for over 25 years. We believe in the transformational power of connection, compassion and empowerment. We begin by meeting individuals where they are and journeying alongside them in the path towards housing. This work is done through two main programs - our Community Center and Street Outreach. Our Community Center is open Monday-Thursday, which offers a bag lunch daily, hygiene items, showers weekly, serving as a mailing address, case work services and connection to additional resources. Our Street Outreach team is in the community four nights a week engaging with individuals living on the streets and navigating them towards housing. Noah at Central is partnering with Central UMC, where it is housed to redevelop its property to build supportive housing.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 6 funders, grant income rose $14k → $173k.

9 of 16 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 52% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of Central United Methodist Church of Detroit Community Development Corp’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

Central United Methodist Church of Detroit Community Development Corp leans on a few funders — its largest provides 36% of grant income and the top three 73%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

95% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund Central United Methodist Church of Detroit Community Development Corp.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $312k arriving through sponsors registered in 9 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
