01What it does

What Zamir Choral Foundation Inc does

Mission

The zamir choral foundation, the premier jewish choral organization in the world, touches the lives of thousands of participants and audience members each year, inspiring jewish life, culture and continuity through the sharing and teaching of jewish choral music.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Our annual hazamir (teen) festival took place in march 2025, with hundreds of american and israeli singers gathering for four days of singing, rehearsals and social activities. This culminated in a gala performance playing to a full house at carnegie hall. The audiences response was enthusiastic and electric. The concert was followed in july by the north american jewish choral festival which drew participants from across the us and four foreign countries for five days of singing, workshops, rehearsals and performances by both guest artists and festival registrants.

  2. Choral education the zamir choral foundation, created by matthew lazar, promotes choral music as a vehicle to inspire jewish life, culture and continuity. Building on the success of the zamir chorale, the first modern hebrew-singing choir in north america, mr. Lazar sought an expansive vision that went beyond the activities of any single choir - one that fostered jewish identity across generational and denominational lines. Today, the zamir choral foundation is at the center of a growing movement that preserves and fosters jewish identity through jewish choral music.

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 17 funders to 26 funders, grant income rose $115k → $705k.

19 of 69 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 39% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of ZAMIR CHORAL FOUNDATION INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 69 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

ZAMIR CHORAL FOUNDATION INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 22% of grant income, and it takes 4 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 4 funders to its left

42% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund ZAMIR CHORAL FOUNDATION INC.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $1.8M arriving through sponsors registered in 13 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
