01What it does

What Wild Horse Connection Corporation does

Mission

To keep the Wild Horses of the Virginia Range free on the range by educating the community about living with our Mustangs and rescuing those that have been removed from the range. We work with the Nevada Department of Agriculture City County Law Enforcement Developers and Land Owners to achieve this. WHC installs fencing gates and cattle guards and provides water resources in the higher range so the horses stay high up and not down on our community streets. We train our rescues so they can be used for therapy and emotional support. We provide emergency resources to those in need. We connect with our community in order to protect the Wild Mustangs by education and awareness.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Care of rescues - Each year horses and foals must be removed from the range for various reasons and require care. In 2025 we continued operating our foal nursery in which we provide 24 7 care for orphaned or abandoned foals. We also took on 25 horses who were seized in a neglect case by Storey County and required extensive rehabilitation and care while awaiting adoption or sanctuary placement. Wild horses live adjacent to and sometimes in areas presenting many potential needs for intervention. Wild horses who are injured or are outside of designated fenced boundaries require a trained rescue services team with proper trucks trailers and equipment. A rescued wild horse needs to be transported to an equine facility for treatment or rehabilitation or relocated to a safe location on the Virginia Range.

  2. Veterinary fees and supplies - The wild horses on the Virginia Range live in very rugged terrain with natural dangers. Their territory is also increasingly occupied by people bringing additional hazards from motor vehicles and residential fencing. Veterinary services are needed on a weekly basis along with supplies to provide rehabilitation.

  3. Training for Rescued Horses - When horses are removed from the range they require training to facilitate their eventual adoptions.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2020 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 6 funders, grant income rose $12k → $25k.

4 of 12 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 49% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of WILD HORSE CONNECTION CORPORATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

WILD HORSE CONNECTION CORPORATION has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 24% of grant income, and it takes 3 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 3 funders to its left

55% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund WILD HORSE CONNECTION CORPORATION.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How long its funders stay

50% of WILD HORSE CONNECTION CORPORATION's funders are still giving 1 year after their first grant; 50% give in more than one year at all.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $94k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
