What Vets Helping Heroes Inc does

Mission

To provide financial support for dog training by certified professionals for veterans who have served honorably and active duty military personnel injured during service in the United States armed forces.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. Guide dogs trained to find and follow a clear path, maneuver around obstacles and stop at curbs. Service dogs specifically trained to help people who have disabilities other than visual impairment. Some of the tasks the service dogs provide are assistance with balance and stability; retreiving dropped items to prevent falls or carrying items in a backpack. The assistance dogs also offer emotional support for service men and women who deal with combat stress, home front issues and sleep disorders. Training of the dogs is provided free of charge to the veterans. All providers funded by Vets Helping Heroes undergo rigorous evaluation and are approved by the Board of Directors. Vets Helping Heroes adheres to a strict code of conduct.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 8 funders to 10 funders, grant income rose $32k → $484k.

10 of 32 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 10% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $149k arriving through sponsors registered in 9 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
