01What it does

What The Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms Inc does

Mission

The stickley museum at craftsman farms' mission is to develop, demonstrate, and deepen connections between history, design, lifestyle, and the natural environment, through the preservation of craftsman farms and the presentation of the ideals of gustav stickley and the arts and crafts movement in america.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. The stickley museum at craftsman farms (smcf) is a national historic landmark and historic house museum, located on the campus of craftsman farms in parsippany, new jersey. Built by gustav stickley between 1908 and 1917 as the most complete expression of his "craftsman" style, the campus of craftsman farms provides an unmatched opportunity to experience stickley's ideas about the impact of architecture, design, and landscape on a meaningful life. In partnership with the owner of the property, the township of parsippany-troy hills, which rescued craftsman farms from private development in 1989, the museum works to interpret, preserve, and protect its original landscape and nine original buildings, including the log house, which is open for scheduled tours. The museum works daily to preserve and restore the craftsman farms' property and to interpret the property through its collections, tours, and programs, both online and on- site, which include lectures, panel discussions, trips, and courses covering a wide range of topics related to design, decorative arts, and architecture. Now in its 36th year, the museum is dedicated to serving its neighboring community, history and heritage…

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 3 funders to 8 funders, grant income rose $4k → $87k.

4 of 13 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 73% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of THE STICKLEY MUSEUM AT CRAFTSMAN FARMS INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

THE STICKLEY MUSEUM AT CRAFTSMAN FARMS INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 58% of grant income and the top three 89%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

75% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund THE STICKLEY MUSEUM AT CRAFTSMAN FARMS INC.

How long its funders stay

50% of THE STICKLEY MUSEUM AT CRAFTSMAN FARMS INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 62% give in more than one year at all.

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Where its funders are

73% of THE STICKLEY MUSEUM AT CRAFTSMAN FARMS INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $425k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
