01What it does

What Tenth Life Cat Rescue does

Mission

Tenth life provides veterinary care, foster homes, and adoptive placement to stray cats and kittens, prioritizing those with special needs. The organization works to end unnecessary euthanasia and cat homelessness through educational outreach, community programs, and collaborative partnerships.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. During 2024, 225 tenth life cats found forever homes through adoption and another 114 were continuing to be cared for by tenth life and its dedicated fosters. Of those adopted, some required special medical care and rehabilitation during their time at tenth life. Examples include: bottle fed neonates, injured paws, limbs, and tails, deformities and neurological damage needing specialized care, heart murmurs requiring medication, and vision impairments. The story of each cat is unique but each one ended with a cat being placed in a home where they will be given the lives they deserve.

  2. Tenth life believes that humane education can be found in every contact with members of our community. We welcome student, social, corporate, and civic groups to learn about how we can all positively impact cats' lives. In 2024, tenth life coducted educational sessions for youth groups and regularly hosted service hours for an animal welfare student organization. Our tenth life cat companions program brought cats to residential patients at 1 location.

  3. Tenth Life Cat Rescue currently leases a storefront location in saint louis that is open to the public by appointment and non-appointment times one saturday per month from 12pm-2pm. This location houses, on average, 20 cats and kittens in a cage-free environment. The storefront is designed to reflect a typical home atmosphere with living room/gathering spaces and provides guests and volunteers with opportunities to socialize with cats, conduct service projects, and provide valuable humane education to youth and community groups.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 12 funders, grant income rose $19k → $64k.

7 of 23 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 56% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of TENTH LIFE CAT RESCUE’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

TENTH LIFE CAT RESCUE leans on a few funders — its largest provides 31% of grant income and the top three 66%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

85% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund TENTH LIFE CAT RESCUE.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

56% of TENTH LIFE CAT RESCUE's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 57% give in more than one year at all.

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Where its funders are

56% of TENTH LIFE CAT RESCUE's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $210k that is directly attributable, 90% of it comes from funders outside Missouri, across 11 states.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $264k arriving through sponsors registered in 7 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
