What San Gabriel Valley Humane Society does
Mission
An open admission shelter committed to providing a compassionate environment for the well being of the animals in our care. With the dedication of our board, staff and volunteers, we strive to find forever homes for all the animals who enter our shelter. We also provide low cost vaccination and spay/neuter services, assisting in maintaining the health of the animals in our communities. Animal control services are also provided to contracted cities.
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Programs
On its FY2025 return the organization reported a significant change in how it conducts a program.
On December 31, 2025 San Gabriel Valley Humane Society transferred all assets to The Humane Society of Pomona Valley, Inc. and ceased operations. The Humane Society of Pomona Valley, Inc. does business under the fictitious business name (dba) Inland Valley Humane Society & SPCA and effective January 1, 2026 dba San Gabriel Valley Humane Society. Effective January 1, 2026, all operations at 851 E. Grand Ave, San Gabriel are managed by The Humane Society of Pomona Valley, Inc.
Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 3).
Serving several of our local cities, our shelter provides a safe and caring environment for stray, abandoned or impounded animals while we work to place them in forever homes. Animals are observed in a segregated intake area, tested as appropriate for disease, vaccinated and evaluated both physically and behaviorally before being made available for adoption. Staff works with potential adopters and animals striving for optimal compatibility and placement resulting in successful adoptions. Staffing levels are continually monitored to ensure proper care, sanitation and socialization of all animals.
$857,384 spent$1,077,076 earned by the program70% of program spendingWhile our services were significantly limited due to the shortage of veterinary personnel, our clinic provides low cost spay/neuter and vaccination services to the general public. Animals needing our shelter care are fully vaccinated, tested for viruses and examined upon intake. Animals are spayed/neutered and microchipped prior to adoption. Separate dog and cat isolation areas are maintained to ensure animal welfare and comfort.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2020, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2020, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2024 to 2025, from $2.2M to $0 (−100%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2020 0% · 2021 11% · 2022 0% · 2023 0% · 2024 0% · 2025 0%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 6 funders, grant income fell $81k → $34k.
6 of 15 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 46% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of SAN GABRIEL VALLEY HUMANE SOCIETY’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
SAN GABRIEL VALLEY HUMANE SOCIETY leans on a few funders — its largest provides 43% of grant income and the top three 71%; half comes from just 2 funders.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
95% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund SAN GABRIEL VALLEY HUMANE SOCIETY.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 100% · 2018 82% · 2019 70% · 2020 75% · 2021 66% · 2022 66% · 2023 43% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
33% of SAN GABRIEL VALLEY HUMANE SOCIETY's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 53% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
SAN GABRIEL VALLEY HUMANE SOCIETY draws 81% of its grant income from funders outside California, across 6 states in all.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $114k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
