01What it does

What Orchard School Foundation Inc does

Mission

Develop and educate the whole child. As a progressive, non-sectarian, independent school, orchard commits to advancing each student's academic success, self-confidence, open-mindedness, ethical character, leadership, and love of learning.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. The elementary school is comprised of approximately 304 students from preschool through the 4th grade. The focus is on the development of the whole child - socially, emotionally, artistically, and ethically within a supportive and challenging environment. During these formative years, when children are curious and inquisitive, orchard school provides them with opportunities to discover, explore, and experiment. Children learn best by doing and, therefore, are encouraged to think, reason, create, and collaborate through active participation in the learning process.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 10 funders to 13 funders, grant income fell $158k → $92k.

8 of 36 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 13% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Left out of every figure on this page: $430k from 5 payers (the payer shares this organization's board, largest The Chicago Community Trust). These are real filings, and they are not money ORCHARD SCHOOL FOUNDATION INC raised.

Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Indiana out of state home

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $1.0M arriving through sponsors registered in 8 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
