What Networkpeninsula does
Mission
To build the capacity of the nonprofit sector
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ.
Programs
Continuing education - in 2024, Networkpeninsula continued its partnership with the bernardine franciscan sisters foundation to provide two entrepreneurial cohorts to six nonprofit organizations. The executive director and at least one board member were required to attend this 4-week cohort which included educational sessions, mentoring opportunities, follow-on calls, and opportunities to create new revenue streams for their nonprofit. Also in 2024, Networkpeninsula launched its inaugural leadership series for current nonprofit executive directors and emerging leaders. This 5 month program included large group meetings with speakers in the areas of board development, personal leadership, human resources and fiscal management; small group sessions with guided discussion by professional coaches; and one-on one professional coaching on leadership development skills. 22 nonprofit staff members and executives representing 18 different nonprofit organizations completed the program.
$0 spentPeer to peer advisory groups - in 2024, we held a total of 21 peer to peer "coffee connections", attended by numbers of nonprofit staff, board members and business and government partners. These groups included separate gatherings of executive directors, development professionals, nonprofit newcomers, and board members. The goal of these groups is to bring together like roles so they can share challenges, ask questions, gain new perspectives as they work to move their organizations forward and, to simply know they are not alone. Through its connections, Networkpeninsula added 24 new nonprofit members and 8 new business partners to its network in 2024.
$0 spentCommunity connections - this program is comprised of weekly newsletters, our comprehensive website, and our social media platforms. The nonprofit e-source newsletter goes out to hundreds of nonprofits across the peninsula to let them know of upcoming programs, items made available from area businesses, new grants from across the country, and resources and opportunities that can help them move their organizations forward. The community e-connections newsletter is accessed by more than 1,500 individuals, businesses, and civic and faith-based groups from across the peninsula. Each week we share the most recent volunteer needs, item needs, and upcoming events from our nonprofits; as well as other resources to assist them and their families in times of need. The goal of these newsletters is to connect the needs of our nonprofits to the community at large and to provide ways they can get involved. Our webiste is a dynamic website continually updated with volunteer needs, item needs, job openings from our nonprofits, upcoming events, resources for board members to assist them in their service, and much more. Our social media platforms provide continual connections to the community at…

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2018, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2018, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2021 to 2022, from $86k to $31k (−63%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
18% of NETWORKPENINSULA’s revenue is contributions — more earned-revenue than three-quarters of its peers (87% for the typical peer).
Surplus & reserves
Operating surplus or deficit each year, and months of liquidity in hand. 3 of the last 7 reported years ran a deficit.

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 4 funders, grant income rose $10k → $97k.
2 of 7 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 4% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of NETWORKPENINSULA’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
NETWORKPENINSULA leans on a few funders — its largest provides 64% of grant income and the top three 94%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
68% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund NETWORKPENINSULA.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 100% · 2018 100% · 2019 50% · 2020 60% · 2021 52% · 2022 68% · 2023 62% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
100% of NETWORKPENINSULA's grant income comes from Virginia funders.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $15k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
