What Nadia's Initiative Inc does

Mission

Nadia's initiative is on a mission to create a world where women are able to live peacefully and communities that have experienced trauma and suffering are supported and redeveloped. We advocate for resources and policy changes needed to protect and support survivors of sexual violence and rebuild communities in crisis.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Program focus areasfor decades, the yazidi community in sinjar, iraq has suffered from resource deprivation, inadequate service provision, forced land removals, and underrepresentation in the region's local governance and security forces. This targeted marginalization by the iraqi state left them vulnerable to isis' attacks in 2014, which destroyed 80% of sinjar's public and private infrastructure. Since 2019, the organization has worked to sustainably rebuild sinjar by laying the foundations for the community to not only survive but thrive. In line with a grassroots approach to sustainable development, the organization works with the local community and a variety of implementing partners to design, support, and implement projects that promote the restoration and improvement of education, healthcare, livelihoods, wash (water, sanitation, and hygiene), women's empowerment, and cultural preservation. All of the organization's programs are community-driven and survivor-centric, aiming to foster long-term peacebuilding in the region and reduce the community's reliance on foreign aid.1) health - the healthcare sector in sinjar was in a beleaguered state prior to isis' invasion, with…

  3. Women's centerone of ni's flagship initiatives, the women's center opened in 2024 and serves as a hub for women's empowerment in sinjar. Designed to address the unique and intersectional challenges of women and girls in the region, including survivors of isis captivity, the center provides a safe, accessible, and inclusive space where they can recover from trauma, access vital services, and lead transformative change within their communities. Guided by ni's survivor-centric and community-driven approach, the center offers a comprehensive array of services, including livelihood support, education, mental health and psychosocial support (mhpss), legal aid, sports-based programming, and capacity building in leadership and advocacy. Over the next three years, ni will strengthen the center's capacity, expand its programming, and ensure it is accessible to all women and girls in sinjar.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2018 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 4 funders, grant income rose $25k → $49k.

5 of 22 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 46% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of NADIA'S INITIATIVE INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 21 of 22 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

NADIA'S INITIATIVE INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 40% of grant income and the top three 75%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

55% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund NADIA'S INITIATIVE INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

22% of NADIA'S INITIATIVE INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 50% give in more than one year at all.

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $515k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
