What Missouri Stream Team Watershed Coalition does

Mission

Stream Teams United promotes and supports Missouri Stream Teams and Stream Team Associations. We facilitate education of Stream Teams and the general public in order to build an appreciation and knowledge of Missouri stream resources. We support stewardship projects to improve the health of Missouri's rivers and streams. We advocate for clean water, provide information to Missouri citizens, and serve as a united voice for healthy Missouri waters.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Watershed Based Stewardship and Education. Stream Teams United works with local Stream Teams and partners to facilitate water quality education and stewardship activities within selected Missouri watersheds. During 2024, Stream Teams United partnered on education, outreach, and stream restoration projects with Missouri Stream Teams in Missouri, including efforts to provide equipment for stream cleanups in the Scenic Rivers region of the Missouri Ozarks. Past watershed efforts have included stream restoration projects in Neosho, MO at the confluence of Hickory and Shoal Creeks, a video series featuring Missouri Watershed Champions, assessments in the Bull Creek and River des Peres watersheds and outreach, education, and stewardship in the North Fork Salt River watershed. Stream Teams United also supports regional watershed based Stream Team Associations' local projects by providing equipment and funding for education projects, litter pick-up events, invasive plant removal, and native plant and riparian plant restoration projects.

Participants receive instruction on paddling, river safety, and the ecology and history of the river and its surrounding communities. 03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 3 funders, grant income rose $3k → $50k.

3 of 7 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 23% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of MISSOURI STREAM TEAM WATERSHED COALITION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

MISSOURI STREAM TEAM WATERSHED COALITION leans on a few funders — its largest provides 57% of grant income and the top three 87%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

87% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund MISSOURI STREAM TEAM WATERSHED COALITION.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration.
