01What it does

What Medwish Medworks does

Mission

Medwish Medworks is a humanitarian nonprofit dedicated to advancing health equity and environmental sustainability. We achieve this by providing essential care, redistributing surplus medical supplies, and connecting medically underserved communities with vital resources, in northeast ohio and around the world.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

On its FY2024 return the organization reported starting a significant new program and a significant change in how it conducts a program.

On september 1, 2024, the organization merged with medworks. Medworks is another not-for-profit organization that connects people who are uninsured or underinsured with healthcare and provides free medical, dental, vision, and women's health clinics. The name of the merged organization is Medwish Medworks.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 2).

With the merger, all of the programming previously operated by medwish and medworks independently came under one roof. The main programs are now surplus medical supply and equipment collection and redistribution, free clinlics, and healthcare navigation services.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 3).

  1. At the core of the Medwish Medworks mission and all of our programs is access ensuring that all individuals can access high-quality healthcare and essential resources. We are committed to breaking down barriers by offering free, accessible care through our local health clinics and international brigades and trustworthy connection to vital health resources, including supplies, equipment, insurance support, and community resource referrals. Our unique combination of programming remains unduplicated in our region, offering a cost-effective solution to medical scarcity and barriers to access.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 14 funders to 36 funders, grant income rose $89k → $563k.

9 of 76 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 35% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of MEDWISH MEDWORKS’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 76 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

MEDWISH MEDWORKS has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 24% of grant income, and it takes 4 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 4 funders to its left

46% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund MEDWISH MEDWORKS.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $1.2M arriving through sponsors registered in 7 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
