01What it does

What Meals on Wheels by ACC does

Mission

Our mission is to serve nutritious meals with a friendly smile to seniors in Sacramento County.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. Meals on Wheels by ACC (MoW) programs serve about 1,800 seniors a day through our Home-Delivered Meal Program (HDM), Congregate Nutrition Program (Cafe), and Restaurant Program (RP).MoW serves lunch five days a week, free of charge, to approximately 325 participants ages 60 and over at its 17 Congregate Nutrition sites located throughout Sacramento County, and at our approved Restaurant Vendor partner locations to approximately 57 senior participants aged 60 and over during the restaurant's open hours. The HDM Program continued serving meals five days a week to over 1,400 frail and homebound seniors. The services we provide at MoW are critical to ensuring local seniors can remain at home rather than moving to nursing homes or assisted living facilities. With current inflation levels, seniors are having to stretch their meager funds farther than ever and a meal from MoW can make all the difference in their budget and ability to lead healthy lives. The following was accomplished during the 2024-25 fiscal year (7/1/24 - 6/30/2025):A. MoW served 3,966 unduplicated seniors and delivered over 449,401 meals to Congregate, Restaurant and Home-Delivered Meal participants.B. Approximately 285…

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 6 funders to 10 funders, grant income rose $3.0M → $6.0M.

9 of 21 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 2% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of Meals on Wheels by ACC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 20 of 21 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

Meals on Wheels by ACC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 97% of grant income and the top three 98%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund Meals on Wheels by ACC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $601k arriving through sponsors registered in 8 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
