01What it does

What Kfug Community Radio Inc a Non- Profit Public Benefit Corporation does

Mission

KFUG Community Radio is a non-profit low-power FM (LPFM) radio station with a Youth Media Program that provides entertainment and produces local news programming for the educational benefit of adults, children and families residing in Del Norte County and Adjacent Tribal Lands.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

On its FY2025 return the organization reported starting a significant new program and a significant change in how it conducts a program.

2025 Was a year filled with turmoil. As the year started cash flow was low and much of our staff was let go. At the same time an agreement to bring on a full-time editor was reached. The director/president/founder of the organization abruptly resigned in June. The board was rearranged. The remaining employee board members left the board. The programs that were running changed format and by the end of 2025 our station and news programs had an entirely different structure. The new board director/president took over station management as a part time volunteer and in 2026 became a full-time employee. The news editor and director/president were keeping things moving. In 2026 additional funding has been arranged and we have rehired some of the reports part time and things are looking up.

Redwood Voice Youth Media: Professional and financial support to develop, organize, operate, and administer Redwood Voice Youth Media, which employs and instructs youth aged 16-24 as journalists producing web-based media and broadcast news. They produce a full hour news broadcast 5 days per week which airs twice a day and is also posted on YouTube and other social media. Written articles are posted to their website. This program benefits youth, students and their families and all residents of Del Norte County and Adjacent Tribal Lands. Programming shifted midyear from regular news broadcasts over the air to posting on YouTube and FaceBook. In addition, three youth summer programs were incorporated into the programming: 1. How Did We Get Here? - a radio adaptation and documentary of the graphic novel of the same name that explores local history in Del Norte County and Adjacent Tribal Lands. 2. Resilient DNATL Youth Podcast - in coordination with CA Health Collaborative this program gave youth a hands-on learning experience of making podcasts with the focus on community mental health problems and solutions. 3. Teen Awareness Combating Overdose Community Advocacy Training (TACOCAT) - this program in coordination with Klamath Promise Neighborhood Summer Bridge Program through the Yurok Tribe Education Department provided similar learning experiences for youth creating harm reduction media campaigns.

3 of 5 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 77% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of KFUG COMMUNITY RADIO INC A NON- PROFIT PUBLIC BENEFIT CORPORATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

KFUG COMMUNITY RADIO INC A NON- PROFIT PUBLIC BENEFIT CORPORATION leans on a few funders — its largest provides 58% of grant income and the top three 94%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund KFUG COMMUNITY RADIO INC A NON- PROFIT PUBLIC BENEFIT CORPORATION.

Largest funder’s share by year: 2019 100% · 2020 100% · 2021 100% · 2022 100% · 2023 100% — broadly stable.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Where its funders are

77% of KFUG COMMUNITY RADIO INC A NON- PROFIT PUBLIC BENEFIT CORPORATION's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $60k that is directly attributable, 75% of it comes from California funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $201k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
