Programs
Clean California KCB manages the community and youth programs statewide for Clean California, an initiative of the Governors Office managed by Caltrans. We are a subcontractor with Sagent Marketing and a group of media partners developing awareness of litter prevention and community beautification. As part of a multi-pronged marketing campaign, KCB has recruited over communities to take the pledge to become designated communities and to guide them in completing at least 10 of 15 criteria to achieve the designation. The goal is to have up to 200 communities pledge by June 2026 and 100 complete the process. KCB created extensive outreach lists of potential partners, including cities, towns, counties, municipal districts, military bases, neighborhood groups, school districts, houses of worship areas, community group service areas, business improvement districts, watershed groups, and other unincorporated entities. KCB developed training materials, workshops, networking opportunities, online tools, and reporting to assist communities. The team provides ongoing opportunities for engagement and recognition. KCB developed K-12 educational materials and managed a $125,000 microgrant…

The non-profit conducts trash rapid assessments throughout the state and has been engaged in multiple projects, including a project to collect and analyze data for MS4 permittees in the American River watershed. KCB trains community-based groups involved in cleanup activities to conduct citizen science, including ranking the overall presence of litter, identifying the sources and types of litter, and documenting area conditions that may contribute to the accumulation or relocation of trash. By providing consistent training, appropriate technology, and quality assurance, the citizen science partners deliver frequent, ongoing data to reduce and manage waste entering waterways. KCB initially designed a litter assessment application in 2019, which became the base tool for the Trash Rapid Assessment Data Exchange (TRADE) dashboard created with the first EPA grant, which helps achieve trash-free waters by connecting Citizen Science to the monitoring and reporting needs of Municipal Storm Water (MS4) Permittees. The current project in the East Bay expands on the knowledge base KCB has…
$35,303 spent9% of program spendingCitizen Science Project KCB managed the planning, organization, outreach, and execution of a series of Climate Action Days in 12 rural counties. These events were conducted in counties that had not participated in California Volunteers projects. KCB conducted research to identify volunteer organizations and government entities to partner on developing a minimum 2-hour climate action event focused on wildfire resilience, native planting, composting, or food recovery. Once a lead organization was identified, which included local non-profits, local governments, and community associations, KCB met weekly for 6 weeks leading up to the event, assisting the local leaders in developing volunteer management skills and planning their event. KCB created promotional materials and set up online registration through Golden Volunteers. Along with the local partner(s), the team promoted the event through social media, digital advertising, and stakeholder networks to drive attendance. During these events, KCB conducted registration, assisted or led educational discussions on community engagement, volunteerism, and impacts of native planting, invasive species or brush removal, tree maintenance,…

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2023 to 2024, from $50k to $185k (+269%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2024 5% · 2025 8%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
100% of Keep California Beautiful Inc’s revenue is contributions — more reliant on donations than three-quarters of its peers (88% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base held at 1 funder, grant income fell $10k → $18.
1 of 6 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 0% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of Keep California Beautiful Inc’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
Keep California Beautiful Inc leans on a few funders — its largest provides 64% of grant income and the top three 93%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund Keep California Beautiful Inc.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 100% · 2018 69% · 2020 56% · 2021 100% · 2022 93% · 2023 100% — broadly stable.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
Keep California Beautiful Inc draws 84% of its grant income from funders outside California, across 4 states in all.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $45 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
