What Hendrick Home for Children does
Program
Hendrick Home for Children, located in abilene, tx, exists to provide quality, trauma-informed 24-hour residential care for three vulnerable populations: single parents and their children, children that cannot live with their parents, and at-risk young adults preparing for independent living. In a therapeutic environment based and centered on christian principles, all residents are supported and taught the importance of spiritual, emotional, physical, and intellectual care and growth. Children and families living on campus receive programming uniquely created and facilitated by licensed therapists, including equine, recreational, and counseling services and financial support. All residents on the home's campus live and receive services free of charge. Though the home primarily serves children and families in taylor county, tx, and the surrounding areas, it accepts applications and considers placement for children and families that meet program requirements from all over the us.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2017 to 2018, from $34M to $133M (+293%).
Leadership and staff
The officers, directors, trustees and key employees listed on each return. Joined and no longer listed compare each filing with the year before, matching people by surname and first initial; a year after a gap, or a roster under three people, has no comparison.

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 5 funders to 10 funders, grant income rose $19k → $404k.
4 of 19 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 16% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
Left out of every figure on this page: $36M from one payer (an institutional transfer, not a grant programme, largest Hendrick Home for Children Trust Xxxxx7007). These are real filings, and they are not money HENDRICK HOME FOR CHILDREN raised.
From the IRS filings of HENDRICK HOME FOR CHILDREN’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 18 of 19 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
HENDRICK HOME FOR CHILDREN leans on a few funders — its largest provides 51% of grant income and the top three 74%; half comes from just 1 funder.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 76% · 2018 90% · 2019 88% · 2020 75% · 2021 51% · 2022 42% · 2023 58% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
56% of HENDRICK HOME FOR CHILDREN's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 53% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
HENDRICK HOME FOR CHILDREN draws 63% of its grant income from funders outside Texas, across 4 states in all.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $299k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
