What Help From People to People Inc does

Mission

The Organization works to help struggling Rockland County, NY, residents through difficult times with dignity through its programs that provide monthly food packages, Thanksgiving meals, school supplies and holiday support.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Pantry: The Organization receives food and clothing from various donors for distribution from the Food Pantry to Rockland County residents who are living in need. Food is distributed five days a week, fifty-two weeks a year to an average of 1,545 low-income families each month. Food packages include fresh fruits and vegetable, meat and protein, dairy, bread and shelf stable items. Weekend food packages are also distributed to at-risk children who participate in free and subsidized school lunch programs so that they do not go hungry on the weekends.

  3. Back To School With Dignity: The Organization receives school supplies and clothing from various donors for distribution to at-risk children so that they can start school in September with the supplies they are required to have. For these children, whose families are already having difficulty putting food on the table, the funds for school supplies generally does not exist. Back To School With Dignity enables these children to start school on an equal footing with their peers and sets the stage for success in the classroom.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 6 funders to 20 funders, grant income rose $36k → $124k.

12 of 48 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 56% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of HELP FROM PEOPLE TO PEOPLE INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 48 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

HELP FROM PEOPLE TO PEOPLE INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 15% of grant income, and it takes 5 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 5 funders to its left

70% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund HELP FROM PEOPLE TO PEOPLE INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

42% of HELP FROM PEOPLE TO PEOPLE INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 73% give in more than one year at all.

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Where its funders are

56% of HELP FROM PEOPLE TO PEOPLE INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $350k that is directly attributable, 75% of it comes from New York funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $452k arriving through sponsors registered in 11 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
