Programs
Habitot's Mobile Museum - With over 50 events since 2021, the Mobile Museum Tour continued in 2025 with eight events in five East Bay cities, in both outdoor and indoor locations. Hands-on exhibits like the Waterworks water discovery experience, Magnetic Ball Run, Rocket Launcher, and Giant Blue Building Blocks demonstrated the engagement of children in learning through play. Maker stations for rocket building and boat building fostered imagination, invention, design, and testing in the exhibits. Sensory and art-making stations supported early childhood development as well as creativity. All events encouraged parent engagement and parent-child bonding. Events were free for EBT card families and offered on a sliding scale of $1-40 for others to make events broadly accessible. Locations were selected to reach underserved families. Twelve hundred participants attended these events.
$96,672 spent100% of program spendingHabitot-at-Home and Kit-based Programs for Families - Habitot continued to distribute its STEM, art, and play-based learning kits created during the pandemic for at-home use. The kits were available for purchase and grants covered the cost of kits distributed to low income and special needs families. Staff-led, how-to videos available through the YouTube channel were made available to guide parents in facilitating kit activities with their children, especially how to foster childrens learning of math and science concepts, language, and problem solving. In addition, our weekly Totmail e-newsletter delivered how-to instructions and material lists for at-home art and STEM activities to 3,500 households with a high open rate of 40-50%.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2019 to 2020, from $652k to $297k (−55%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2017 2% · 2018 18% · 2019 5% · 2020 31% · 2021 22% · 2022 54% · 2023 26% · 2024 39%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
89% of Habitot Childrens Museum’s revenue is contributions — more donation-reliant than the typical peer (64% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base narrowed from 5 funders to 4 funders, grant income fell $55k → $12k.
6 of 17 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 56% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

How concentrated its funding is
Habitot Childrens Museum leans on a few funders — its largest provides 37% of grant income and the top three 64%; half comes from just 2 funders.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
72% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund Habitot Childrens Museum.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 46% · 2018 52% · 2019 63% · 2020 61% · 2021 80% · 2022 63% · 2023 68% — growing more concentrated.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
33% of Habitot Childrens Museum's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 41% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
56% of Habitot Childrens Museum's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $154k that is directly attributable, 68% of it comes from California funders.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $194k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
