What Giving Words Inc does
Mission
Assisting young or single mothers as well as the elderly
As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.
Programs
Car repair program 2025: in cooperation with the local school system's career and technical education program, we continued our program with the automotive technology classes to service single moms' cars. In 2025, we repaired 33 cars. With our partnership with local schools, autozone, glass shops, upholstery shops, and automotive repair shops, we can cut costs between 30%-70% and provide the repair services to mothers at no cost to them. In rural areas especially, but also in smaller cities, providing and maintaining reliable transportation is a key.
$43,296 spent51% of program spendingCar gifting program 2025: also, we repair donated cars to give away. In 2025, giving words gave away 8 cars to mothers in need. Currently, we accept private donations of cars, but we have created a partnership with carter myers automotive, a business that houses over 28 virginia dealerships. Not only have they repaired cars for us when a certain dealership, such as subaru, was necessary, but they also have assisted our mothers with wise purchases and plan to help us in the acquisition of affordable, but reliable used cars for our increased demand. Every car that we give away is inspected, detailed, and thoroughly checked over by an auto mechanic. This year, two cma subaru dealerships, in richmond and staunton, chose to sponsor giving words in their "subaru share the love" event in december 2025. For every subaru sold at that dealership, they will donate 300 to giving words.
$30,972 spent37% of program spendingFinancial resource program 2025: we recognize that all families incur irregular expenses that demand additional resources; single mothers often do not have that cushion. We strive to make connections with community businesses, local churches, and other non-profits so the mothers do not have to figure out where to go next. If we can connect them to a resource that is already available, like a local food bank or social services, we do so. If that service is unavailable or underrepresented, we find a method to meet that need. This year, we gave away school supplies, diapers, and wipes, provided free lay and professional counseling, and offered free clothing, furniture, and household items to mothers and their children through local consignment shops and private donations. For all these services, we pay for them or receive them free of charge.

In 2025, we gave away 6 tool kits to outstanding students in the louisa county high school automotive program. Responses from our mothers 1. "wow, where can I begin? Well, I have been really going through tough times because my husband of 23 years walked away and left us to fend for ourselves with one income and a car that needed repairs, bills that needed to be paid, and responsibilities that could not be ignored god surely showed up in every circumstance and continues to show up daily. God sent a group of people into my life during such a tremendous storm, and they (giving words) helped me when no one else could or seemed to care to my car is up and running, I did not lose my job, and my bills are coming along life is still a song and dance every day, but giving words made the song so much sweeter and the dance a lot less strenuous I am truly blessed, and this has given me the ability to take a few more steps towards better days thank you so very much giving words keep doing what you all are doing because so many of us (single parents)…

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2020, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2020, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2024 to 2025, from $97k to $154k (+59%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
93% of GIVING WORDS INC’s revenue is contributions — more donation-reliant than the typical peer (84% for the typical peer).
Surplus & reserves

Who funds it, year by year
2019 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 5 funders, grant income rose $20k → $50k.
3 of 12 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 31% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of GIVING WORDS INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
GIVING WORDS INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 42% of grant income and the top three 76%; half comes from just 2 funders.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
46% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund GIVING WORDS INC.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2019 100% · 2020 69% · 2021 35% · 2022 62% · 2023 44% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
50% of GIVING WORDS INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 50% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
96% of GIVING WORDS INC's grant income comes from Virginia funders.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $90k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
