01What it does

What Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund Inc does

Mission

Everytown for gun safety support fund seeks to improve our understanding of the causes of gun violence and help to reduce it by conducting groundbreaking original research, developing evidence-based policies, communicating this knowledge to the american public, and advancing gun safety and gun violence prevention in communities and the courts.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Program

  1. In 2024, everytown law, the nation's largest and most experienced team of litigators dedicated to combating gun violence in the courts, helped lead the way in advancing gun safety. Not only did everytown law celebrate the united state supreme court upholding the longstanding federal law that prohibits abusers subject to protective orders from possessing guns in united states v. Rahimi, but saw a string of wins across the country. In a major win for gun safety, polymer80, the nation's largest producer of ghost gun kits and component parts, shuttered in 2024, following a years-long effort by everytown and everytown law to hold the ghost gun industry accountable for its illegal and life-endangering conduct. Everytown law didn't stop there, filing or joining seven new lawsuits this year, on behalf of gun violence survivors and states and cities nationwide, seeking to hold members of the gun industry accountable for unlawful and reckless conduct contributing to gun violence across the country. Additionally, in 2024, the everytown community safety fund awarded over $2 million in grants to 34 community-based violence intervention organizations to help sustain critical gun violence…

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 87 funders to 323 funders, grant income rose $4.5M → $25M.

87 of 816 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 65% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY SUPPORT FUND INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 816 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY SUPPORT FUND INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 33% of grant income, and it takes 5 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 5 funders to its left

67% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY SUPPORT FUND INC.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $113M arriving through sponsors registered in 29 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
