Accelerating solutions: the dr. Lorna breen heroes' foundation is dedicated to addressing the operational practices and processes driving health worker burnout, while changing how the healthcare industry supports health workers' mental health. Through all in: caring for caregivers, we guide and equip hospitals, clinics, and other care facilities in building a thriving and sustainable workforce where health workers have the support, structures, and culture they need to deliver exceptional care today and for generations to come. Together, we improve workplace policies and practices that reduce burnout and normalize help-seeking - going beyond encouraging self-care and individual resilience to focus on operational-level improvements. We have equipped 35,000+ healthcare leaders to improve workplace policies and practices that reduce burnout, normalize help-seeking, and strengthen professional wellbeing. We are also working with 30+ healthcare organizations to accelerate quality improvement projects that address the top driver of burnout - administrative burden. For example, one participating hospital improved their staff retention and engagement while improving quality of work and…

Lorna breen heroes' foundation believes every health worker should have access to mental health care and professional wellbeing support that they may need, at every moment in their career. In the wake of dr. Breen's tragic death in 2020, the dr. Lorna breen heroes' foundation worked with partners, allies, and congressional champions to develop the bipartisan dr. Lorna breen health care provider protection act, which became law in 2022. This landmark law and its funding have already transformed and saved lives - improving the systems in which health workers are educated, trained, and practice. For example, some grantees lowered turnover by 35%, reduced burnout by 37%, and decreased mental health conditions, including anxiety (53%) and depression (50%). Now, we are galvanizing our community to get the lorna breen act reauthorized and funded, so we can continue the life-saving, systems-changing work. Additionally, we work with state leaders to advocate for policies that protect health workers' access to confidential mental health care and improve workplace conditions that reduce burnout (e.g., prior authorization standardization, workplace…

Through our ambassador program we engage 400+ health workers, medical students, experts, and leaders to improve understanding on protecting health workers' wellbeing and advocating for change. Additionally, through our all in: wellbeing first for healthcare coalition, we lead 35+ national organizations to advance practical solutions and remove barriers to mental health care for the healthcare workforce. Together, our all in for mental health initiative equips the healthcare community to change stigmatizing policies and practices that discourage health workers from seeking mental health care. For example, through the wellbeing first champion challenge program, we support licensure boards, health systems, hospitals, medical groups/clinics, and health plans to commit to equal privacy in mental health care for health workers - ensuring confidentiality of diagnoses and treatments during licensure and credentialing processes.…

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2021, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2021, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2023 to 2024, from $1.2M to $2.3M (+96%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.

Who funds it, year by year
2020 → 2023: the base broadened from 3 funders to 6 funders, grant income rose $12k → $974k.
5 of 18 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 11% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of DR LORNA BREEN HEROES' FOUNDATION’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
DR LORNA BREEN HEROES' FOUNDATION leans on a few funders — its largest provides 38% of grant income and the top three 74%; half comes from just 2 funders.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
72% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund DR LORNA BREEN HEROES' FOUNDATION.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2020 86% · 2021 56% · 2022 61% · 2023 77% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
25% of DR LORNA BREEN HEROES' FOUNDATION's funders are still giving 2 years after their first grant; 56% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
DR LORNA BREEN HEROES' FOUNDATION draws 100% of its grant income from funders outside Virginia, across 7 states in all.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $245k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
