What Dogs to Dog Tags Inc does
Mission
D2dt creates an opportunity to save at risk, rescued, or donated dogs, train them, and place them with deserving service members who have been diagnosed with post combat stress and anxiety. The purpose is to provide the veteran, at no cost, a trained dog that they can gain a constant companion to help them cope with their unique challenges in everyday life.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.
Program
The 2024 National Veteran Suicide Prevention Annual Report highlights a deeply concerning reality: 17 U.S. veterans die by suicide every day, and for veterans aged 45 and under, suicide is the second leading cause of death. This stark statistic drives home the urgency of our mission at Dogs2DogTags. In response to this ongoing crisis, we continue to face the challenges of growing our organization in a way that allows us to reach and support more veterans who are struggling with the mental health impacts of their service. When Dogs2DogTags opened its doors in 2016, rescue dogs lived with our founder, Torre Willadsen, and foster families. Dog training took place in Torre's backyard. This setup served us well in the early days but was no longer sufficient as we grew. In April 2022, with the generous support of our donors, we purchased property that included a 3,700-square-foot metal building. While this allowed us to begin training on-site, it became apparent that the space still lacked the essential amenities required to meet the needs of our dogs and veterans. Key areas such as on-site kennels, climate control, bathrooms, and sufficient fenced-in outdoor space for dog training and…

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2018, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2018, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2021 to 2022, from $258k to $925k (+259%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2024 7%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
99% of Dogs to Dog Tags Inc’s revenue is contributions — more reliant on donations than three-quarters of its peers (88% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 14 funders, grant income rose $10k → $234k.
6 of 27 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 51% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of Dogs to Dog Tags Inc’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
Dogs to Dog Tags Inc leans on a few funders — its largest provides 43% of grant income and the top three 73%; half comes from just 2 funders.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
54% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund Dogs to Dog Tags Inc.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2017 100% · 2018 83% · 2020 33% · 2021 54% · 2022 38% · 2023 21% — diversifying over time.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How long its funders stay
57% of Dogs to Dog Tags Inc's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 41% give in more than one year at all.
Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.
Where its funders are
51% of Dogs to Dog Tags Inc's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $659k that is directly attributable, 72% of it comes from Wisconsin funders.
In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $685k arriving through sponsors registered in 6 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
