What Developing Radio Partners Inc does

Mission

Drp is a nonprofit and media development organization that works with people in low and middle income countries running community based media organizations, including radio stations. Developing radio partners brings the most important development information to those hardest to reach in sub-saharan africa and across the world, using the most widely used medium--radio--by enriching the programming of community based radio stations. We train journalists about climate-smart agriculture, health for women and youth through workshops, weekly bulletins on timely issues with a problem statement and solutions and production tips. We provide funds for community activities and on-site mentoring. By providing much-needed training, drp helps radio stations and other media organizations live up to their potential of being powerful agents for positive change.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

We provide them with the skills, content and methodologies they need to bring reliable information services on development topics to their listeners. Developing Radio Partners is dedicated to bringing information on the most important topics in development - population, climate change, health and governance - to those who are hardest to reach, using the most effective media: local radio, text messaging and various social media platforms. Developing Radio Partners, (DRP), is a solutions-oriented organization committed to building vibrant, participatory communities internationally, through the development of financially and editorially independent media services with a focus on community radio. Country by country, we build the capacity of individual radio stations, associations and programming networks by working alongside station managers, their staff and their communities to achieve local development goals that enrich people's lives. Following initial workshops, DRP provides stations with: - Weekly program…

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 1 funder to 6 funders, grant income rose $30k → $143k.

2 of 10 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 3% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of DEVELOPING RADIO PARTNERS INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

DEVELOPING RADIO PARTNERS INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 72% of grant income and the top three 95%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

75% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund DEVELOPING RADIO PARTNERS INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $30k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
