01What it does

What Copper Beech Institute Inc does

Mission

Teaching mindfulness practice and contemplative wisdom to inspire purposeful living, awaken our full potential for compassionate action and encourage a healing shift in how we relate to one another and our interconnected world.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

On its FY2024 return the organization reported a significant change in how it conducts a program.

Due to less than hoped for programming seasons during the winter of 2024 and spring of 2025, the board of Copper Beech Institute voted during the April 2025 board meeting to sunset the organization. Once the decision was made, only existing programs with enough participants registered were held through June 30, 2025. No new program Retreats or workshops were planned with dates after June 30, 2025.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 3).

  1. This year we've empowered youth, supported educators, cared for the community with our toolkit, and explored the power of giving and receiving. We have also continued our MFC program, a leadership program that builds on each participant's expertise, training them to view their field and community through a mindfulness lens. Mindfulness Facilitator Certification (MFC) is an immersive community learning experience that introduces participants to a transformative new way of living and teaching mindfulness, informed and responsive to our ever-changing physical and digital world. We guide participants in deepening their personal practice while leveraging their unique expertise through a new mindful lens & framework. Through MFC, Copper Beech Institute promotes healing across connected communities.

Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base narrowed from 3 funders to 2 funders, grant income rose $22k → $75k.

5 of 15 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 21% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of COPPER BEECH INSTITUTE INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

COPPER BEECH INSTITUTE INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 51% of grant income and the top three 70%; half comes from just 1 funder.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

44% of COPPER BEECH INSTITUTE INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 40% give in more than one year at all.

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $134k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
