01What it does

What Big Arts Organization Inc does

Mission

To advance public appreciation of the arts.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. Big arts organization continued to operate and tour "titanic's end and "mothership", two large scale mobile art pieces. Significant ongoing improvements to both pieces were made throughout the year.community development continues to be a pillar of big arts organization. Much of the work on the art pieces is volunteer based to support community-driven learning, art and building education. We also held our annual summer camp where attendees worked together to generate new ideas for future art, maintain our existing titanic's end and mothership art pieces, and learn technical, performance, and production skills as we continue to foster emerging creators. A large part of this year's focus has been building out the big arts studio/warehouse where they are able to bring the large scale art projects to life, maintain and store our past projects. Big arts org hosts regular build days for volunteers to participate in fabrication, lighting, welding, printing. Big arts is committed to educational programming for our volunteers and maintaining a safe space to support and expand access to the arts.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.

6 of 7 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 99% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of BIG ARTS ORGANIZATION INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 6 of 7 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

BIG ARTS ORGANIZATION INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 73% of grant income and the top three 99%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

99% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund BIG ARTS ORGANIZATION INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Where its funders are

99% of BIG ARTS ORGANIZATION INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $32k that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from funders outside California, across 1 state.

PA

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $4.5M arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
