Programs

The awsom shelter took in 892 animals (stray and surrendered) in 2024. 753 were successfully adopted out into their new homes and 97 were reunited with their family members.shelter facilities include state-of-the-art glass dog runs, a free roaming cat room, an outdoor exercise area for dogs, and an adopter visitation space. These provide care and attention to the physiological and social adaptability of our animals. Adoption, surrender and return-to-owner fees are charged to supplement fundraising events and donations from our generous community at large. Shelter operations are also comprised of community outreach to youth and special needs groups that visit the facility and receive education on the importance of humane pet care. Board members and others serve as awsom animal ambassadors, reaching out to schools, churches, and civic groups while providing education concerning the benefits of spay-neuter and humane animal care.

The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2017, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2017, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2022 to 2023, from $900k to $1.8M (+100%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
Government-grant reliance: 2018 4% · 2019 2% · 2020 8% · 2022 2% · 2023 2% · 2024 2%. Grants only. Government contracts and fees sit inside program revenue.
62% of ANIMAL WELFARE SOCIETY OF MONROE’s revenue is contributions — about as donation-reliant as the typical peer (74% for the typical peer).

In-state vs out-of-state, by year
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $72k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
