01What it does

What Women's Environment and Development Organization does

Mission

The mission is to ensure that women's human rights; social, economic and environmental justice; and sustainable development principles-as well as the linkages between them are at the heart of global and national policies, programs and practices.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. The Women's Environment and Development Organization (wedo) advances gender equality and women's leadership in global climate and environmental policy. In 2025, wedo influenced international climate negotiations, including implementation of the unfccc gender action plan, and supported women negotiators from developing countries through the women delegates fund. The organization also produced research and data tools to strengthen accountability and convened global partners to advance equitable climate finance and gender-just transitions.

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 7 funders, grant income rose $400k → $927k.

7 of 19 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 16% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $805k arriving through sponsors registered in 6 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
