01What it does

What Women for Macc Inc does

Mission

Women for macc is a non-profit, charitable organization bringing hope to families through research and awareness to end childhood cancer and related blood disorders.

As stated on its FY2022 Form 990.

Program

  1. Support of women for macc benefited ongoing critical childhood cancer and related blood disorders research made possible through the macc fund. The road toward a cure is a long one, but since our founding in 1982, we have helped to shorten the journey by contributing more than $5.5 million to the macc fund for crucial childhood cancer and related blood disorder research. We can assure our donors that 100% of women for macc's investment in research stays in wisconsin, with the vast majority remaining in milwaukee at the medical college of wisconsin and children's wisconsin. Research efforts here provide real hope to children and the families facing a cancer or related blood disorder diagnosis. Your support impacts the lives of children with cancer and related blood disorders everywhere, as treatment protocols developed here become the standard of patient care coast-to-coast.after much consideration, we have concluded that it is time to refocus our time, talent, and efforts to even better serve our mission to bring hope to families through research and awareness to end childhood cancer and related blood disorders. Women for macc will dissolve and become a committee of ambassadors…

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 5 funders, grant income rose $2k → $10k.

2 of 14 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 59% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of WOMEN FOR MACC INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

WOMEN FOR MACC INC leans on a few funders — its largest provides 57% of grant income and the top three 78%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

59% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund WOMEN FOR MACC INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. How long its funders stay

33% of WOMEN FOR MACC INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 21% give in more than one year at all.

Where its funders are

59% of WOMEN FOR MACC INC's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $13k that is directly attributable, 93% of it comes from Wisconsin funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $19k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
