01What it does

What Ubuntu Black Family Wellness Collective does

Mission

Ubuntu Black Family Wellness Collective is a free and charitable clinic and social safety net. Ubuntu Black Family Wellness Collective serves Black pregnant and parenting mamas, their babies and children through community-based, holistic reproductive health care and wrap-around, easily accessible support services that inform and empower Black mothers and families to thrive in pregnancy and parenting to reduce maternal and infant health disparities in the year around pregnancy and the newborn's first year of life.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Program

  1. The Community Doula Program provided free doula services to 46 pregnant mothers, supporting them through pregnancy, childbirth, and the early postpartum period. This initiative aimed to improve maternal and infant health outcomes by offering continuous emotional, physical, and informational support at no cost to participants. Our Food Pantry provided access to both shelf-stable and perishable food three days a week on a walk-in basis. In addition, the program served two hot meals per week to 30-50 people, addressing immediate nutritional needs and supporting community members facing food insecurity. The Free Clinic provided free pregnancy testing, condoms, and birth control, as well as women's preventive health services, to 212 unique clients. These services increased access to essential reproductive health care and supported the well-being of women in the community. We also hosted 3 community baby showers, providing safe sleeps surfaces, diapers, and newborn and postpartum supplies to a total of 150 pregnant mothers

Who funds it, year by year

2020 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 3 funders, grant income fell $22k → $24.

3 of 8 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 37% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

How concentrated its funding is

UBUNTU BLACK FAMILY WELLNESS COLLECTIVE leans on a few funders — its largest provides 37% of grant income and the top three 74%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund UBUNTU BLACK FAMILY WELLNESS COLLECTIVE.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $45k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
