01What it does

What The Squared Network does

Mission

We aim to expand the impact of the squared experience by forging new partnerships between incredible students, host campuses, and financial supporters.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Kent squared is the organization's flagship residential site, operated on the campus of kent school in kent, connecticut. It provides multi-summer, tuition-free academic enrichment to first-generation, low-income high school students, pairing rigorous stem instruction with college-access advising, residential life, and enrichment programming. During the summer 2025 session the program served 57 students on a residential basis. Direct-service costs include instruction, student stipends and travel, program supplies, residential operations, and campus services provided by kent school.

  2. General programs - The Squared Network aims to expand a stem and college access program for first-generation and low-income students. Our "general program" is the part of our company that focuses on expansion, identifying partner schools, raising funds to launch new programs, and strategizing operations across our network of programs.

  3. Middlesex squared is the organization's second residential site, launching in summer 2026 on the campus of middlesex school in concord, massachusetts. During the year the program was in pre-launch development: building the site team, designing the program with the host campus, and completing the operational, staffing, and compliance groundwork required to open. First-generation, low-income students will be served beginning in the inaugural 2026 session.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

Grant support over time, funder by funder — shade shows the grant size each year.

2 of 11 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 28% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of THE SQUARED NETWORK’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

THE SQUARED NETWORK leans on a few funders — its largest provides 26% of grant income and the top three 63%; half comes from just 2 funders.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

55% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund THE SQUARED NETWORK.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

Where its funders are

THE SQUARED NETWORK draws 100% of its grant income from funders outside Massachusetts, across 6 states in all.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $347k arriving through sponsors registered in 2 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
