01What it does

What The Humane Society of Southeast Mo does

Mission

To advocate for humane treatment of all animals and encourage spaying and neutering to decrease overpopulation of domestic animals.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. The humane society takes in lost or stray animals and provides food, shelter and medical attention, animals are placed for adoption whenever possible. The humane society provides shelter to many animals from a 17 county area. By maximizing adoptions and transfers to animal rescue organizations with waiting adopters, our adoption rate increases each year.

  2. Spay-neuter assistance program (snap). The spaying of animals helps control the number of lost or stray animals. The snap program provides low cost spay/nueter assistance for animals owned by persons with limited resources. Many people participate in the snap program every year. In addition, an annual one day event provides vouchers for free spay/neuter to anyone who participates, without any income restrictions.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base narrowed from 4 funders to 2 funders, grant income fell $26k → $9k.

7 of 18 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 40% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF SOUTHEAST MO’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 17 of 18 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF SOUTHEAST MO has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 19% of grant income, and it takes 4 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 4 funders to its left

86% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund THE HUMANE SOCIETY OF SOUTHEAST MO.
