What Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Hancock Count does

Mission

Dedicated to the promotion of animal welfare through community education, advocacy, and placement of companion animals into responsible, loving homes.

As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.

Programs

  1. Animal care: the spca provides temporary shelter for displaced cats and dogs. While in our custody they receive needed medical care, often to correct long term issues and drastically improve each animal's quality of life. We provide enrichment, socialization, and careful assessment of potential adopters. This ensures that each animal is adopted into a safe, caring, and well matched forever home.

  2. Spay and neuter assistance: the spca is committed to decreasing the overpopulation of cats in hancock county by offering prevent-a-litter certificates to low income individuals. We work in partnership with the state of maine as well as local veterinary offices to offset the cost of spaying and neutering cats. In addition to this, the spca now offers annual low cost/no cost spay/neuter clinics to the community. Before any animal is adopted from the spca, we ensure that it has been spayed or neutered.

Who funds it, year by year

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left

53% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS OF HANCOCK COUNT.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $150k arriving through sponsors registered in 3 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
