01What it does

What Shopmonkey Foundation AKA Maintenance for Moms does

Mission

Since 2019, Maintenance for Moms has been dedicated to assisting single moms by providing free vehicle repairs in Santa Clara County. We have grown from a dream to a nonprofit organization. We built a team and developed an easy process for single moms to apply for free vehicle repair. We have also purchased several new cars and donated vehicles to moms whose vehicles were not worth repairing. This year we have had 152 applications, repaired 67 cars, purchased 2 new/used cars and ended the fiscal year with no applications in process.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990-EZ.

Programs

  1. Car Repairs. This year at Maintenance for Moms we were able to repair 67 vehicles for single moms whose cars were in need of maintenance and repair in order to get to work and their children to school and day care. The average cost for a vehicle repair was $1,787.

    $119,701 spent
    78% of program spending
  2. New Cars for Clients. This year at Maintenance for Moms we were able to purchase 2 new (used) vehicles for single moms whose cars were not worth repairing and are needed to get to work and their children to school and day care. The average cost for a vehicle was $8,812.

    $17,624 spent
    11% of program spending
  3. Resources for Moms. This year we provided resources (books, gas gift cards, essential toiletry items) to 78 single moms as they entered our program for car maintenance. This is an added way that we provide for our clients.

    $3,692 spent
    2% of program spending
  4. Events. All Events are focused on providing support for single moms beyond their car repairs so that they can spend money to maintain their own car throughout the year (oil changes regularly, breaks etc - basic maintenance).

The 4 programs described on its FY2024 Form 990-EZ. Program spending in total: $153,559.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2020 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 4 funders, grant income fell $100k → $18k.

6 of 9 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 16% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of Shopmonkey Foundation AKA Maintenance for Moms’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

Shopmonkey Foundation AKA Maintenance for Moms leans on a few funders — its largest provides 74% of grant income and the top three 90%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

26% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund Shopmonkey Foundation AKA Maintenance for Moms.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How long its funders stay

60% of Shopmonkey Foundation AKA Maintenance for Moms's funders are still giving 1 year after their first grant; 44% give in more than one year at all.

first grant+1y

Share of funders still giving k years after their first recorded grant, pooled across every acquisition cohort. A funder counts as retained in a year only if it made a grant that year. Measured to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving — a funder cannot be counted as lapsed in a year most filers have not reached.

Where its funders are

Shopmonkey Foundation AKA Maintenance for Moms draws 88% of its grant income from funders outside California, across 3 states in all.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $74k arriving through sponsors registered in 5 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
