What Science From Scientists Inc does

Mission

Our vision is to inspire students, ignite interest, and improve stem competency with the goal of filling the workforce pipeline with talented, competent individuals.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

  1. In-school module-based stem education program: our signature program for 22 years. In the ay23-24, we served 12,700 students in grades 3-8 in 104 schools across our three regions: ma, mn, and ca. 76% of the students were bipoc, 60% economically disadvantaged, and 30% multilingual learners. Matched pair analysis has shown a 10% higher science proficiency score than a comparison group of nonparticipating peers. In our may 2024 survey, 82% of teachers reported that their students understand stem concepts more than they did before, and 98% of teachers said that students had learning experiences that would not otherwise have been possible without science from scientists.

Past events have occurred at red sox games at fenway park and the minnesota twins target field. *science theater: exciting stem demonstrations led by real scientists and accompanying explanations of such experiments as elephant toothpaste, chemiluminescence, and a bed of nails. Past performances have occurred at patriot place, fenway park, joint base andrews, and epcot theme park at walt disney world resort. *unique partnerships: special collaborations between corporate and nonprofit partners to achieve stem education goals. Past collaborations include action-oriented education experiences with the world wildlife fund (wwf), as well as interactive science exhibit ideation for the milken center for advancing the american dream (mcaad).

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 15 funders to 33 funders, grant income rose $493k → $857k.

19 of 94 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 41% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of SCIENCE FROM SCIENTISTS INC’s funders (the co-funder graph). Top 30 of 94 funders by total. Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

SCIENCE FROM SCIENTISTS INC has a broad base — no single funder exceeds 16% of grant income, and it takes 8 funders to reach half.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 8 funders to its left

42% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund SCIENCE FROM SCIENTISTS INC.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How long its funders stay

46% of SCIENCE FROM SCIENTISTS INC's funders are still giving 3 years after their first grant; 60% give in more than one year at all.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $2.4M arriving through sponsors registered in 12 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
