01What it does

What Radio Ambulante Studios Inc does

Mission

To tell underreported latin american stories from anywhere spanish is spoken, including the united states. These stories are made to educate, disseminate information, and provide new perspectives on latin american/latino identity.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Program

  1. During the year radio ambulante produced podcasts that tell the stories of latin america. The podcasts were distributed by national public radio and covered a variety of topics including the environment and science, human interest, human rights, and immigration. In reporting a story, we work with a talented community of freelance storytellers and radio producers from different corners of the continent. Therefore, radio ambulante may operate in any region or country around the world where we can investigate neglected and underreported stories that will educate and serve our community of listeners. Radio ambulante reported stories from argentina, brazil, canada, chile, colombia, cuba, ecuador, el salvador, spain, guatemala, honduras, mexico, peru, united kingdom, dominican republic, uruguay and venezuela. In order to report stories overseas, we work with correspondents and freelance local journalists with a broad knowledge of local current events.

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2017 → 2023: the base broadened from 2 funders to 9 funders, grant income rose $175k → $575k.

7 of 25 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 11% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $390k arriving through sponsors registered in 6 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been.
