01What it does

What Pronto International does

Mission

PRONTO International aims to optimize care during birth. We develop and implement innovative training strategies for health care providers that act as a catalyst for individual, team, and system change.

As stated on its FY2025 Form 990.

Programs

On its FY2024 return the organization reported a significant change in how it conducts a program.

In the prior fiscal year, PRONTO completed two major USAID-funded projects in Mozambique and Niger. Following the closure of USAID and the resulting disruption to the global health funding landscape, PRONTO dedicated significant time this year to strategic planning. This included developing a deeper understanding of the shifting funding environment, pursuing new institutional and funding partnerships, and advancing curriculum development for the U.S. market through the expansion of FRONTIER, our curriculum addressing obstetric and neonatal emergencies in maternity deserts.

Its own explanation, from Schedule O of that return (Part III, line 3).

  1. In 2024-25, PRONTO International continued efforts to expand its U.S.-based work, applying lessons learned from our international programs to strengthen maternal and newborn health initiatives across diverse contexts, specifically working on obstetric and neonatal emergencies in maternity deserts. PRONTO worked to expand curricular depth by developing new modules for the Indian context and collaborating on curriculum for the U.S. on simulation to support providers caring for mothers with substance use disorders. 2024-25 brought systemic changes to the global health funding landscape. PRONTO's employees and Board of Directors spent time this year on strategic planning to identify the best ways to meet PRONTO's mission while managing rapidly changing external factors. In Kenya, PRONTO continued to support Dr. Patience Afulani's research studying the impact of training on provider burnout. In India, PRONTO continued its support for midwifery education and in-service simulation trainings with local medical colleges. In addition, PRONTO expanded its curricular offerings specific to India through local curriculum development activities. In partnership with the University of Utah, PRONTO…

03Who funds it

Who funds it, year by year

2018 → 2023: the base held at 1 funder, grant income fell $94k → $16.

1 of 6 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 0% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.

From the IRS filings of PRONTO INTERNATIONAL’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.

How concentrated its funding is

PRONTO INTERNATIONAL leans on a few funders — its largest provides 81% of grant income and the top three 98%; half comes from just 1 funder.

the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 1 funder to its left

100% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund PRONTO INTERNATIONAL.

“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $93 arriving through sponsors registered in 1 state is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
