What Our Sorrowful Mothers Ministry does
Mission
OSMM's annual weekend conference and weekend retreats include presentations by priests and speakers, daily Mass, Confession, Holy Rosary, Prayer Teams and time for individual prayer and meditation. Our Prayer Teams pray with and for people for their personal intentions. Our aim is to provide a place of love and mercy to all who come here and to encourage reconciliation and unity for their lives and with God.
As stated on its FY2024 Form 990.
Programs
OSMM RETREATS: * Small intimate retreats where you can interact directly with speakers and OSMM community members; * Holy Mass, Confession, Adoration; * Prayer Teams to pray with you for your intentions; * Spiritual Mentoring available on selected retreats; * Holy Rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, Guided Meditations; * Our retreats end with a prayer/healing service where each person is prayed with individually; and * We provide solid Catholic teaching always remaining within the teachings of the Magisterium and the Holy Father. All our retreats, no matter what the topic, have the purpose of providing healing and reconciliation first with God and then with ourselves and others. Healing begins with understanding God's plan for our own journey and salvation. We provide the sacraments of Eucharist and Confession and meditative opportunities to further your personal relationship with Christ. The registration fee is $45 for a 3-day retreat (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). Please see the OSMM website at osmm.org for more information. The organization over time
Each line starts at 100 in 2020, so what you read is the shape rather than the size: 150 means half as much again as 2020, 50 means half. The number beside each label in the key is where it ended. The shaded band is where the middle 50% of its peers' revenue would sit, given their growth.
Balance sheet
Total assets and total liabilities at each year end, in dollars. The largest one-year move in total assets was 2021 to 2022, from $965k to $1.4M (+42%).
How it's funded, over time
Each bar is one year's revenue split into where it came from, and every bar is the same height — these are shares, not amounts, so a year that raised twice as much looks the same size. Hover a bar for the split.
42% of OUR SORROWFUL MOTHERS MINISTRY’s revenue is contributions — more earned-revenue than three-quarters of its peers (100% for the typical peer).

Who funds it, year by year
2018 → 2023: the base narrowed from 2 funders to 1 funder, grant income fell $32k → $318.
4 of 5 of your funders are donor-advised or pass-through sponsors (tagged DAF) — 51% of grant dollars received. That money is really individual donors directing a sponsor; the institutions to cultivate are the non-DAF funders.
From the IRS filings of OUR SORROWFUL MOTHERS MINISTRY’s funders (the co-funder graph). Association, not causation. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
How concentrated its funding is
OUR SORROWFUL MOTHERS MINISTRY leans on a few funders — its largest provides 49% of grant income and the top three 83%; half comes from just 2 funders.
the vertical line marks half of all grant income — 2 funders to its left
51% of the income these shares are computed over arrives through pass-through sponsors or from payers whose filings do not say what kind of payment it is. Concentration is still measured over all of it, because the money is real; what it does not support is a claim about how many institutions have chosen to fund OUR SORROWFUL MOTHERS MINISTRY.
Largest funder’s share by year: 2018 78% · 2019 53% · 2020 96% · 2021 100% · 2022 100% · 2023 100% — growing more concentrated.
“Effective funders” = inverse Herfindahl index (1 / Σ shareᵢ²) — the number of equal-sized funders that would give the same concentration. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
Where its funders are
51% of OUR SORROWFUL MOTHERS MINISTRY's grant income arrives through donor-advised or pass-through sponsors, whose addresses record where the money is held rather than where the donor is. Of the $75k that is directly attributable, 100% of it comes from funders outside Illinois, across 1 state.
Funder states come from each funder’s own filing. $77k arriving through sponsors registered in 4 states is excluded from the map and the split above: a sponsor holds money on a donor’s behalf, so its registered address would place those dollars somewhere no donor need ever have been. Trends are read to FY2023, the last fiscal year that has finished arriving. FY2024–FY2026 are still being filed and are shown unshaded; they do not move any figure on this page.
